La Preneuse

La Preneuse is a small village in the Black River district of Mauritius, 3 kilometres (2 mi) south of Tamarin. It was named after a French ship involved in a naval battle with the English in the 18th century.

The village is home to the best preserved Martello tower in Mauritius [1] as well as a long sandy beach with spectacular views over the Indian Ocean horizon and the Le Morne Brabant Peninsula in the south west.

La Preneuse is situated at the foot of a mountain, a few kilometres north of the secluded island of Île aux Benitiers and the small coastal villages of Case Noyale and Grande Rivière Noire.
